Well Speaking of remote shutter releases…
There was an article on Digital Photography School where the author created a remote shutter release using a doorbell system.
It is a pretty interesting concept, and a fairly clean setup. The tutorial goes into detail on how to on how to build your own.

A Remote Shutter Release is almost a requirement for studio macro photography. I would also argue that it is a necessity for reverse lens macro photography.
