Stacked Lenses Macro Sample Shots
I wrote last time regarding stacked lenses setups and I don’t think its fair to write about other’s rigs without showing mine. Over the weekend I decided to take a few sample shots. The rig that was used was a Canon T1i, Tamron 28-300mm VC, Canon 50mm 1.8 stacked and reversed. I used a male to male coupler 68mm to 52mm that I picked up on ebay for $6. Here is a quick snap shot of the rig in question:
I always find a common item that everyone knows is the best subject for this sort of thing so I used a quarter for these samples. They were all taken around 1/10 shutter with external tungsten lighting and a tripod mount. The 50mm was around 1.5 inches from the subject. The total magnification should be 300/50 or 6:1 on the sensor of the camera. Here are the samples:
In this photo you can see the razor thin depth of focus that the reversed stacked macro lens setup causes with the “IN GOD WE TRUST”:
Now we can compare this to a 1:1 macro taken with a reversed Sigma 18-50mm taken on the same camera body and we can see the difference in magnification but without the great depth of focus:
