Comparing a Real Macro Lens to a Reversed Lens
In this site’s about section we discuss why to use a reverse macro lens, so I thought it would be important to get some comparison shots with real macro lens at a close to the same magnification.
Here is a sample of the difference on a Canon Xt shooting a Canon 100mm Macro vs a Reversed Canon 28-200 Telephoto.
Major Differences:
- Aperture could be set more easily on the 100mm Macro making more of the photo in focus. It might have been possible to open up the aperture for this photo though.
- There is a bit more magnification with the reversed 28-200mm
Here is a sample of the difference on a Canon T1i shooting a Sigma 50mm Macro vs a Reversed 18-50mm Telephoto.
The results are much the same as the 100mm macro vs the reversed 28-200mm. Basically you have more control over the aperture and the focus, but have a bit more magnification on the reversed lens.
The other main notable difference is that it is much more difficult to shoot with a reversed lens as you find yourself pushing the whole camera in and out vs zoom/focusing with a ring. We will be publishing more comparisons in the near future.
